Marita Setas Ferro

Artistic Director & Curator

Born in Beira, Mozambique, in 1967, Marita Setas Ferro is a curator and cultural manager with over 15 years of experience in exhibition development, cultural programming, and interdisciplinary research across art, design, fashion and craft.

Her practice is grounded in material culture, sustainability, and cross-cultural dialogue, exploring how objects, materials, and visual languages articulate identity, belief systems and collective memory across cultures and time. Through a research-led approach, she engages with contemporary practices while drawing connections to historical and cultural references.

She is currently Curator and Creative Director at Double J Collective in Dubai, where she develops exhibitions with an international scope, including projects presented at Art Dubai. Her curatorial work focuses on fine craft, contemporary material practices and global cultural narratives, aligning with museum approaches that emphasise thematic storytelling, intercultural exchange and inclusive narratives.

She is also a member of the Portuguese committee of Intercolor, contributing to international research on colour, visual culture, and trend forecasting across 19 countries.

Her academic background includes a Master’s degree in Fine Arts (Sculpture) from the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Porto, where her research focused on the garment as a three-dimensional artistic object. She also holds postgraduate studies in Artistic Education, an MBA in Cultural Management in Cities (ISCTE, Lisbon), and an MBA in Design and Marketing (Fashion), alongside formal training in Fine Arts and Fashion Design. This multidisciplinary foundation informs a practice that moves fluidly between curatorial, artistic and theoretical frameworks.
