Biography
Neda Salmanpour is an Iranian architect and designer whose practice examines the intersection of Middle Eastern visual culture, geometry and contemporary design. As co-founder and design director of Taraf Design Studio, she develops research-driven works informed by historical ornamentation, mathematical structures and architectural language. Her approach combines analytical precision with material experimentation, translating cultural references into contemporary objects and public installations.
Trained in architectural engineering, Salmanpour’s work reflects a strong understanding of spatial systems, proportion and structural composition. Alongside her collectable design practice, she collaborates with cultural institutions on public art initiatives across Dubai, creating projects that engage with heritage, urban identity and contemporary cultural discourse through carefully articulated material and formal strategies.
NUSJ
Inspired by the region, the NUSJ series of artistic furniture draws from the majestic palm trees and their cultural significance. NUSJ aims to explore the interplay between the geometry of the palm trunk and the intricate handcrafted weavings of palm leaves, expressing them in architectural forms. The design delves into the study of tessellation patterns shared between these two aspects, capturing their movement through volumetric expression.
Advocating for sustainability through function, NUSJ creates a modular furniture collection. Presently represented as an artistic installation, these pieces are designed to serve adaptive functionality beyond the exhibition, bridging the gap between art, design and self-expression. and function.
