Taibe Palacios is a Chilean contemporary jewellery artist whose wearable sculptures transform natural materials such as banana leaves and seaweed into highly distinctive forms. Combining material innovation with artistic experimentation, her practice explores the boundaries between jewellery, sculpture and contemporary art while maintaining a strong connection to nature.
Day Dreaming
“Daydreaming” is a study in composition and textures. It has been handcrafted with many fragments of seaweed, using an innovative technique developed by the artist to work with organic and sustainable elements collected from nature. Seaweed material has been dried and carefully manipulated, dyed and then covered with layers of bio resin to achieve resistance. Afterwards, skillfully carved, enhancing its own organicity and beauty, ultimately sanded to create a smooth surface, with the intention of obtaining a ceramic-aspect finish. This brooch is truly a representation of a wearable piece of art; a fusion of craft, art and design.
