Biography
Founded by architects Sara E. Markovic and Ahmed Magd, Tamiati is a functional art and design studio inspired by the cultural intersections of Egypt and Canada. Applying architectural principles to furniture and object design, the studio combines historical references, artisanal craftsmanship, and sustainable material exploration with a contemporary aesthetic. Named after the ancient name for Damietta, a city celebrated for its woodworking traditions, Tamiati honours the enduring relationship between craft, culture, and material. The studio debuted at Dubai Design Week 2025 with its Equinox series, introducing functional furniture defined by structural clarity, material honesty, and timeless everyday usability.
Equinox Collection
Stone, Straw and the Weight of Memory
Equinox arises from a central question that underpins this practice. How can Egyptian identity be felt within a space without resorting to familiar motifs? For two architect designers of Egyptian origin, the response lies in proportion, material and craft lineages rather than in literal imagery. The collection currently unfolds through two works, Equinox and Travertine Equinox, each approaching the idea of balance from a distinct yet related perspective.
