Vânia Gonçalves
Vânia Gonçalves was born in Lisbon in 1978, where she lives and works. She graduated in dentistry, which she practised for 13 years in London, but soon realised her desire to do something artistic.
Biography
Having attended several experimental ceramics workshops in London, Vânia Gonçalves furthered her artistic journey by enrolling in the Ceramics course at the renowned Ar.Co. Art School (Centro de Arte e Comunicação Visual) in Lisbon upon returning to Portugal. She has since established a home studio where her creative work unfolds.
We need to talk
A metaphor for human connections, in this sculpture, all the pieces were attached in different drying stages, so the bonds between them would, on their own accord, hold together or break off. The kiln did the rest. The gloopy glaze flows through it like an intruder that can no longer be ignored.
