Wafaa Al Shamsi
Dubai-based ceramic artist whose practice, Latakhaf (“do not be afraid”), is rooted in wheel throwing, altered forms and experimental firings such as Raku and Obvara. Her collections have been shown at SIKKA Art Fair, and she is an active ceramics educator across the UAE, having taught and mentored hundreds of students in Sharjah and Dubai.
Waves of Memory
A wall installation of ceramic plates, gently carved with flowing wave-like lines and hand-drawn with wooden dhows, the traditional ships once built and widely used in the UAE. Inspired by the country’s maritime history and by the artist’s father, a jalaf (traditional shipbuilder), the work is both a tribute to heritage and a reflection on craftsmanship and legacy.
